The United Conservative Caucus consists of 48 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) who support and promote the work of government in constituencies across Alberta. As a pipeline of talent for Ministers’ Offices, caucus plays a crucial role in training and developing staff to fill political roles within the Government of Alberta, ensuring continued success.

Role Overview

As the Director of Communications, you will lead a team dedicated to supporting MLAs in promoting government messaging within their local ridings. Your responsibilities include:

  • Building relationships with private members to establish trust and encourage them to seek communications and political advice.
  • Identifying political opportunities to clarify positions, counter misinformation, and elevate MLAs' profiles.
  • Organizing and managing your team, delegating tasks, and providing constructive feedback for professional development.
  • Responding to media inquiries and working with the Whip and leadership to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Conducting media training for MLAs as needed.
  • Writing clear and strategic communications with a strong attention to detail.
  • Staying informed on Alberta’s electoral landscape, politics, and current affairs, often requiring responsiveness beyond normal working hours.

  • Knowledge of legislative procedures related to communications (QP, statements, speeches, debate) is an asset.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience working with elected officials or executive leaders.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in communications, particularly in media relations.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a political environment.
  • Education in communications is an asset.
  • Management or leadership experience is an asset.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and other digital communication tools is also an asset.
